Make it Count: Maximizing Your Time (and Effort) in the Gym

Finding time to get to the gym as you work to balance relationships, careers, hobbies, housework, and self-care is no easy feat. You might not be able to add hours to the clock, but you can increase your efficiency to get the most out of your workouts.

Our trainers at Get F.I.T. offer quick and easy tips for how you can maximize your gym sessions to see and feel the most impact!

1. Stretch with Intention

Instead of quickly moving through a random series of stretches and jumping into lifting, be more intentional by selecting targeted stretches for whatever muscle group you plan to work on.

2. Get Hyped Up with Good Tunes

Studies have shown music doesn’t only help your mood, but also enhances performance during exercise, especially in cardio-focused activities. It will also make you feel like you’re working less hard, so you can put in a little extra muscle.

3. Take Time to Relax & Recover

Proper rest and rejuvenation are essential to your success in the gym. This is because every time you push your body, your muscles become riddled with microscopic tears that need to be rebuilt through sleep and rest. Listen to your body. If you get the feeling you’re overdoing it, there’s a good chance you are.

4. Keep Things Interesting

Mixing up your workout regularly will keep both your mind and body engaged so you can see the best results. If you’re always doing the same movements, your body will adapt and likely plateau.

5. Eat Before You Move

Working out on an empty stomach is a recipe for a workout that ends too early with a trip to the bathroom or the couch. You not only run the risk of feeling fatigued, dizzy, and nauseated, but you may also increase your risk of injury. Before you head to the gym, have a snack that’s high in complex carbs.

6. Work with a Personal Trainer

When you work with one of our pros at Get F.I.T., you get a personalized approach to your training, which means you will move more efficiently for your unique body and dramatically reduce your risk of injury. Plus, you will have accountability from a community that wants to see you thrive!
